New Yorkers Come Together in "Immigrant Unity Rally" to Celebrate and Respond to President's Historic Announcement

What: Rally at Washington Square Park; New York immigrant communities come together to celebrate and share stories and responses the night after the President's historic announcement that he will take steps through his executive authority to fix the nation's broken immigration system.

Why: Last night, in an address to the nation, President Obama detailed his plans to use executive action to grant administrative relief to millions of immigrants, heeding the calls of a strong immigrant rights movement across the country demanding a stop to unjust deportations that are tearing families and communities apart. The President's announcement comes after years of inaction on the part of Congress who have refused to pass a legislative solution addressing immigration. It is estimated that President Obama’s executive action will benefit up to five million immigrants across the country, and a quarter of a million New Yorkers.

When: Today; Friday, November 21st, 5:30pm

Where: Washington Square Park; 1 Washington Square East (in front of the fountain)

Who: Affected immigrants, Community Based Organizations, Labor and Faith leaders.
