NYC Labor Rallies with DNAist Union Members, Fired One Week after Joining WGAE

On Monday, November 6th, NYC Labor and elected officials gathered with the Writers Guild of America, East to rally with workers from DNA Info. and Gothamist, who lost their jobs when company owner Joe Ricketts decided to shut down the publications, roughly one week after voting to join the WGAE.

Workers heard from reporters, WGAE Executive Director Lowell Peterson, and NYC CLC President Vinny Alvarez, as well as supportive elected officials like NYC Public Advocate Letitia James, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, Queens Senator Michael Gianaris, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and NYC Council members Donovan Richards, Helen Rosenthal, and Antonio Reynoso.

Speakers called for an end to corporate greet, and the type of classism that would opt to use a union-busting tactic like shutting down entire publications, as retaliation for workers unionizing.
