Columbia Graduate Workers Union Certified by NLRB

On Monday, the Nation Labor Relations Board upheld a December 2016 vote in favor of unionization, certifying the Graduate Workers of Columbia-UAW (GWC-UAW) as the union for 3,000 research and teaching assistants who work at the University.

The NLRB rejected Columbia’s objections, and cited the 979-vote margin as evidence of the fairness and validity of the results.

The workers have received overwhelming support from faculty members, students, the broader NYC Labor Movement, and elected officials in their call for the University to respect the outcome of the democratic process and voluntarily recognize the GWC as the bargaining unit for these workers.
