DC 1707 Rallies for Wage Parity for Early Childhood Educators

AFSCME District Council 1707 and supporters marched and rallied on Wednesday to demand that New York City end the unfair salary disparity between early childhood teachers in community based organizations and Department of Education schools. Teachers at these CBOs are professional educators who are doing the same job as their peers who work for the DOE, with the same qualifications, yet certified teachers at CBOs continue to earn significantly less than certified teachers at DOE peers, and that salary gap grows over time. Some of these teachers earn as little as 60% of what PreK teachers at DOE schools earn.
