Rally Tuesday with Striking Teamsters at Catsimatidis Oil Company

Tue, Aug 10, 2021 at 01:00 PM

Join immigrant essential workers at United Metro Energy for a rally with local elected officials as they continue their strike for fair wages and benefits for their families. These workers stayed on the job to keep New York fueled through the pandemic, but their billionaire owner, John Catsimatidis, continued to pay them as much as 50% less than the area standard wage for their industry. The workers have been on strike for nearly four months.

Last week, the New York City Central Labor Council, the New York State AFL-CIO, and the Teamsters sent an open letter to New York elected officials seeking their support to win justice for the United Metro Energy workers. The company has fired and permanently replaced seven union activists in retaliation for the strike, an action that is among several charges currently being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board.

This Tuesday at 1PM, please join Teamsters Local 553, elected officials, and other supporters at 500 Kingsland Avenue, Brooklyn. Read more about the strike in the Daily Beast.
