Working for the freedom from employment discrimination and the right of working families to fair pay, job safety, secure retirements and affordable health care have been goals fundamental to the union movement, which has long partnered with the civil rights and women’s movements and, more recently, with the LGBTQ community.

On this and every Labor Day, we honor the men and women who keep New York City up and running. We represent workers from all three sectors of the labor movement, all backgrounds, and all walks of life, and we all play an important role in helping to keep NYC a world class, union-made city.
Last week, workers at neighborhood news sites DNAinfo and Gothamist marked 100 days since they informed their employer they had joined the Writers Guild of America, East.
The fight continues to free IUPAT brother Hugo Meija and union carpenter Rodrigo Nuñez, as ICE officials refuse to release them while their asylum applications go through the appeals process in the 9th circuit court. Rally at the ICE Field Office at 26 Federal Plaza, Manhattan.

On Wednesday, the New York State AFL-CIO facilitated a training for union members, officers, and staff on Labor’s opposition to a Constitutional Convention.
This week, the NYC CLC partnered with the National AFL-CIO to present a 'Know Your Rights' Workshop to trade unionists.
