AFM Local 802’s Jazz Mentors Series Highlights Navigating the Artist-Manager Relationship

This week, AFM Local 802 hosted a Jazz Mentors series event about the Artist-Manager Relationship.   The panel included artist reps. Karen Kennedy (24/Seven Artist Development), Michelle Taylor (Passion Music Group), and Gail W. Boyd (Gail W. Boyd, P.C., an entertainment law firm, and Gail Boyd Artist Management).

The questions asked and answered included: How do I know if I need a manager? How do I seek a manager? What do managers do? And most important: How do I work with a manager to ensure that the relationship grows and is mutually beneficial?

The Jazz Mentors series connects up-and-coming performers with some of New York City’s premier artists and jazz industry professionals to discuss the business of jazz. Led by preeminent leaders of the community, each forum features a panel discussion of how best to build and maintain a successful music career.  Sessions are free and open to the public.
