CUNY Faculty Union, Major Labor and Community Organizations to Kick-Off Contract Campaign for Fair Salaries, Quality Education Monday

With their union contract recently expired, CUNY faculty and staff represented by the Professional Staff Congress will press CUNY management to come to the table and negotiate an agreement that protects the quality of a CUNY education and helps students to succeed.  The workers and supporters will meet at the CUNY Grad Center at 4:30, march to Baruch College at 5:00, and rally there outside the CUNY Board meeting from 5:30-6:30.

While the PSC's last contract, which came after a six-year delay, offered raises and back pay, CUNY’s full-time faculty still remain underpaid compared to faculty at comparable institutions and CUNY adjuncts still earn near-poverty wages. The situation is undermining CUNY’s ability to attract and retain professors and academic staff, making it harder for CUNY to continue to offer a top-rate education to the 500,000 New Yorkers who depend on it.
