AFM Local 802 in the News

Local 802 members made several headlines this week. The New York Times published a major story on struggle of musicians at the Metropolitan Opera and what's on the horizon as they organize for justice and a fair contract. Separately, musicians cheered when their pension fund withdrew its request for benefit cuts, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which musicians and the entire labor movement had strongly supported. Local 802 also released its annual tax tips for musicians, with special information on how the pandemic affects taxes. And Local 802 member Yo Yo Ma performed for people waiting in line for their Covid vaccine: "In these days of anxiety, I wanted to find a way to continue to share some of the music that gives me comfort," he said.
