Graduate Workers of Columbia Prepare to Strike on Monday

After two years of bargaining, graduate workers at Columbia University (GWC-UAW 2110) are set to go on strike on Monday, March 15th at 10am if the University does not agree to a fair contract. Last spring, 96% of student workers voted 96% yes to authorize a strike.

"This fight has been long, spanning more than five years thus far," wrote Research Assistant and PhD candidate Connie Baublitz in an Op-Ed for The Chief-Leader. "We have learned a lot, including the fact that many of the issues we face stem from systemic problems that are built into academia's infrastructure. It takes collective action to restructure things in a way that offers justice and equity to everyone who participates. We will keep fighting, and keep striking, until we have a contract that makes these changes and improves our working conditions overall."
