CLC Hosts First Spotlight Series Event, Highlighting Women Leaders in the Labor Movement

On Wednesday, NYC CLC Secretary-Treasurer and UFT Vice President of Academic High Schools Janella T. Hinds moderated a discussion between women labor leaders, reflecting on the continuing issues of inequality and disproportionate impact that the pandemic has brought to light, as well as next steps in the fight for equity in the aftermath of COVID-19. Panelists included President of PSC-CUNY, AFT Local 2334 Barbara Bowen; CWA Local 1180 President Gloria Middleton; Coalition of Labor Union Women President Elise Bryant; Actors' Equity Association Eastern Region Vice President Melissa Robinette; NY/NJ Joint Board of Workers United General Manager Julie Bracero Kelly; IATSE Local 764 President Patricia White; UAW Region 9A Director Beverley Brakeman, and OPEIU Local 153 Secretary-Treasurer Myra Hepburn.

More than a thousand viewers tuned in as panelists shared their own experiences as female leaders, and discussed the issues that women face as a critical part of the modern workforce, and the challenges of navigating a historically male dominated space.
