NYC CLC Hosts Labor and Civil Rights Panel, "Building Prosperity: Addressing the Inequality Gap"

On Wednesday, the NYC CLC hosted our annual labor and civil rights event in the form of a panel discussion centering around how union membership has contributed to narrowing the inequality gap and how it can continue to build solidarity in an effort to create prosperity that is felt by all workers.

The event was moderated by CLC Secretary-Treasurer Janella T. Hinds and featured opening speaker William E. Spriggs, Chief Economist of the AFL-CIO, and panelists Santos Rodriguez, Director of Community Affairs & Strategic Initiatives, Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York; Anthony Wells, President, SSEU Local 371; and Lisa Ohta, President, Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, UAW 2325. Topics included factors that have exacerbated the inequality gap in the last 5 years, how the Labor Movement can work to reduce the inequality gap and build prosperity for members and nonmembers alike, and how unions can connect with their members outside of their workplaces as part of their organizing.
