City kids often don’t have the same opportunities to learn about and interact with animals that suburban kids enjoy. And a surprising number of NYC kids have never been to Central Park, the landscape masterpiece in Manhattan that draws millions of visitors from around the world every year.

Transport Workers Union Local 100 has formed a non-profit that arranges for kids to come to Central Park, learn about horses, and get treated to a free horse-carriage ride. It’s called AWESOME - Animal Welfare Education / Supporting Our Metropolitan Equines. TWU Local 100 represents the carriage drivers.
