NYU Contract Faculty Rally for Respect!

After delivering a petition last week signed by a majority of contract faculty, NYU contract faculty with Contract Faculty United – UAW, campus allies, and NYC Comptroller Brad Lander rallied Wednesday to tell the university administration to respect their right to collective bargaining and agree to a fair and neutral process to recognize their union.

“As contract faculty, we give our professional lives to the University, support students and teach an increasing percentage of classes,” said Ingrid Paredes, an Industry Assistant Professor at Tandon School of Engineering. “But we struggle with inconsistent pay, job security, and transparency about how decisions impacting our work and lives are made. In unionizing, we are joining with academic workers across the country fighting to improve our working conditions. Today we are calling on NYU to respect our right to self-determination, and remain fair and neutral as we move forward with our union.” Read more in Hyperallergic and follow Contract Faculty United on Twitter for updates.
