Now is the Time for a Reasonable Contract

Proposed Contract Would Hurt New Hires Through Tiered Compensation System

New York, NY – New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Vincent Alvarez today released the following statement regarding a one-day strike by unionized workers at the CUNY Research Foundation, who are protesting management’s failure to agree to a fair contract renewal:

“The workers who are striking today are fed up with management refusing to offer a fair and reasonable contract.  Workers are being asked for concessions that include health insurance premium hikes, and lower wages for new hires.

“Across the board, workers are being targeted to give up more than their fair share, and by creating a tiered compensation system, management is essentially pitting current employees against future hires.

“Now is the time for management to get to work on a fair contract that appropriately compensates all CUNY Research Foundation employees for the work they do. The New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, stands with these hardworking men and women, and with PSC CUNY in the fight to get workers the wages and benefits they deserve. ”
