NYHTC’s Historic New Contract is an Absolute Victory

Testament to Labor Movement’s Ability to Fight for Working Families

New York, NY – New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Vincent Alvarez today released the following statement, regarding the New York Hotel Trades Council’s announcement of a new five-year contract that will help roughly double the wages of 1400 Resorts World Casino employees:

“I applaud President Peter Ward and the New York Hotel Trades Council for this historic five-year agreement to help drastically increase wages, benefits, and training for thousands of New York City residents.

“The provisions of this contract will fundamentally change the lives of these workers by providing them a real path to the middle class, while also ensuring they have access to healthcare, career advancement training programs, and retirement security for workers.  The agreement also contains an important provision to protect immigrant workers from the discrimination and intimidation that have plagued our workforce for far too long.

“This is an absolute victory, and a testament to the Labor Movement’s ability to fight to ensure that all working families have the wages, protections and tools necessary to grow and thrive in New York City.
