NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO Releases Second Round of City Council Endorsements in 2023 Races

NEW YORK, May 5, 2023 — The New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO (NYC CLC), representing 300 unions and 1.3 million members, including more than one million registered voter households across New York City, today announced its second round of endorsements for the 2023 New York City elections. Today’s endorsements include eight additional incumbent candidates for New York City Council seats; 23 incumbent endorsements were released last week.

As in previous years, the NYC CLC’s member-to-member political program, NYC LaborVotes!, will focus on educating, engaging, and facilitating union members’ and their households’ ability to cast their ballot during the 2023 elections.

“The New York City Central Labor Council is the largest and broadest labor coalition in the city, and together with our affiliates we are committed to engaging with voting union households in all five boroughs through member-to-member outreach in support of our endorsed candidates,” said NYC CLC President Vincent Alvarez. “Our endorsed candidates have already proven that they have what it takes to win, and we look forward to working with them to build a resilient, just New York City economy that works for all working families.”

Candidates seeking the NYC CLC’s endorsement participate in a rigorous process, including participation in a training on the New York City labor movement and the issues important to working people. Candidates then move on to an interview with a panel of affiliate representatives, and also submit a questionnaire before they are considered eligible for endorsement.

Today’s City Council endorsements are as follows:

District 4: Keith Powers

District 15: Oswald Feliz

District 22: Tiffany Cabán

District 26: Julie Won

District 29: Lynn Schulman

District 36: Chi Ossé

District 37: Sandy Nurse

District 38: Alexa Avilés
