Labor Counts! 2020 Census

Every ten years since 1890, the federal government sets out to count every person living in the United States. The Decennial Census as it is called, will take place between March through June of 2020.

For many reasons, New Yorkers and many Americans choose to ignore the request for information and choose not to participate in the Census.  Unfortunately, this can cost New York not only millions of dollars in federal dollars, it can also lose political representation in Washington D.C.  You see Congressional seats and federal funding for things such as infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, transportation & education are determined by the number of people counted in the U.S. Census.

Unions across NYC are participating in the Labor Counts! Census 2020 Complete Count Committee to strengthen our ability to count our members, their families and the communities where they live.

We as organized labor are in a unique position, not only do we have an audience of members whom we communicate with on a regular basis, we have a culture of engagement and activism that lends itself to assisting in this massive civic undertaking of counting all people.

We need all our members to pledge to participate in the 2020 Census.
