This week, the State Senate failed to pass the New York State DREAM Act.  The legislation would allow undocumented students to apply for the State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), as well as various in-state loans and scholarships.

On Thursday, Mayor de Blasio signed the expanded Paid Sick Leave bill into law.  This measure would require companies with five or more employees to allow workers up to five paid days off to recuperate from an illness, or to care for an ill family member The bill was signed at Steve’s Ice Cream in Greenpoint, Brooklyn – a business which voluntarily offers paid sick days to its workers.
