This week the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) rejected a request to rehear the Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association case, which received a 4-4 ruling from the court in March of this year. The Friedrichs case was an attempt to eliminate agency fees, which would have dealt a crippling blow to public sector unions.

This week, a Macy’s strike was narrowly averted when RWDSU Local 1-S and Macy’s reached a tentative contract agreement. Workers at the flagship Herald Square store, along with others at locations in the Bronx, Queens and White Plains, New York, were prepared to strike, as well.
The contract now awaits ratification by Local 1-S membership.

On Thursday, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka announced the 12.5 million member Federation’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President. Today, CWA announced that the roughly 40,000 union members along the East Coast who had been on strike for 49 days have ratified new contracts.
